Hi everyone, today I am sharing some information about a cool device which does a lot fascinating stuff being inside your computer cabinate if it’s a desktop or on board if it’s a laptop or in the SOC(System On Chip) if it’s a tablet or smartphone and its called Graphic Card or Video Card or Graphics Processing Unit(if its SOC or Laptop).
Let’s go through a brief introduction to what this device is:
In short everything u see on the computer or mobile screen is composed ,generated and processed by the graphic card . the raw or compressed data say an image file is loaded by the operating system from the drive passed into the RAM from there it is passed to the graphic cards dedicated memory through the PCI port .

But some of you might be thinking that wait a minute, there is no device attached to my PCI port but still my Operating System is running , well in that case there is the default Graphic which is embedded inside your CPU chip if its i3,i5,i7 or its inside the controller of the motherboard, which is a barely an entry level graphic card which may or may not support all games and if it does ,the performance will be low we .will get into the details in a while.

Why do we need Graphic Card.
Now as most of us use operation system with a Graphical User Interface which consists of icons , images ,vector images, texts etc. what CPU does is that it decides what and where ,how much to draw and pass that information to the graphic card and now all the drawing ,pixel to pixel analyzing , filtering almost everything is done by Graphic card . In short no graphic card, no drawing on monitor, everything u are watching on your screen right now has just passed from the graphic card. Okay that comes under necessary requirement, If you have pretty powerful Graphic card you can enjoy latest games in high quality with all the goodies on in the graphic settings.
U might be thinking why we need graphic card to do all these task when I got quite decent processor in my computer well the CPU is designed to do Sequential task at higher clock rate , in addition you can see multiple core but not more than 8 cores(Physical cores not Logical cores ) but on the other side the graphic card run at lower clock rate but with higher number of cores in them like nvidia gtx 650TI which is a mid range graphic card of round off amount of 180$-200$ something has cores in it running at on the stock board . And a high end card such as AMD/ATI R9 290×2 has as many as cores running at each pretty high digit here isn’t it. So in short the graphic card s designed to do massively parallel tasks like pixel processing, like if your screen size is 1920*1080 ie 2073600 pixels and a game that is running at 60 fps even if is as low as Mario running at 60fps so your graphic card is coloring 2073600 *60 pixels each second which is 124416000 and that is just coloring , post processing, texturing, matrix calculations for transformation of objects .
Apart from that you can also use graphic card to do the task that was designed to be done on cpu which reduces overhead on cpu or can entirely be done on gpu within a drastic lesser time like finding primes of a big number , a really big number .Hacker often use gpu to decrypt the hash or finding the key.In scientific calculation use of gpu is comman ,even most of of the super computers now have a high end graphic processor in it not just one but an array of them ,most of the time equal to the number of processors in it. Gpu are also used in simulations , animations , your video encoding and decoding,image processing even it processes the physics of the game if the programmer has written the code for that.
There are wide array of graphic cards that are designed just for processing digits like nvidia quadro series and amd /ati firepro series these are the ones that are used in super computers.
